By the end of 2004 the idea of building an Islamic Center (LBIC) in the City of Long Beach had become extremely important. The City of Long Beach is the most ethnically diverse large city in the United States earning it "The International City" nickname. Located where Los Angeles County and Orange County meet, Long Beach is home to nearly 3000 Muslims. Almost 40% of them are Students who attend the California State University of Long Beach (CSULB). In recognition for the growing needs of Muslims in Long Beach, a garage was donated by a Muslim community member that is located in the rear of his car dealership located at 1471 Long Beach Blvd., in Long Beach. |

| The Importance of the Long Beach Islamic Center | ||

Building upon the foundations laid out by Long Beach's first Masjid, Masjid Al Shariff, the Long Beach Islamic Center provides a religious and educational environment that meets the growing needs of our diverse and ever-expanding Muslim community. The prayer hall will not only serve local community members, but also Muslim students from CSULB (especially those who originate from out-of-state and international regions), and Muslims employed in Long Beach and itís surrounding cities. Invitations are accepted and given via the open dialogue that LBIC maintains between Muslim and Interfaith leadership figures. Such dialogues facilitate a realistic image of Islam as a religion (way of life) and a mercy upon mankind to our neighbors, classmates, and co-workers |
